I thoroughly enjoyed all 5 courses at Deer Duck Bistro when I visited here this week! I’m not a big eater so I found the portion size was good for each course. However I’d probably say that for other people the portions could be a tad too small in comparison to other fine dining tasting menus. I particularly loved the decor at Deer Duck as it was very reminiscent of my home, England. The service was great and the waiting staff were professional and friendly. Can’t wait to visit again to try a different menu! Thank you for an amazing experience Deer Duck Bistro!

I dined at this beautiful bristro for the first time on Tuesday night after purchasing a Groupon Voucher for the seven-course degustation. To be completely honest, without the Groupon deal (36% off the normal price) I probably would give the degustation a pass as it is a little pricey. But I absolutely loved the meals and the bistro itself. I absolutely loved this place for the staff’s professionalism and attentiveness to our table. The bistro venue itself is so quirky and the ambience is so fitting and comfortable. The food that was served in the degustation was to die for. Every dish was so delicious and beautifully presented. Loved it and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been here before. Top stars.

Absolutely magnificent. We ordered the long course degustation and every course was beautiful, for me the stand out was the Venison Tartare. The staff were amazing and the restruaunt itself was very well decorated. Don't let the cost put you off. Worth every penny.

Deer Duck bistro took me back in time. From the moment you step in this beautifully decorated bistro you, you feel like you are in the 19th century. We had a 5 course degustation menu. The dishes were very petit but super tasty. Just reminded me that we need to enjoy the ( the small ones of course) moments in your life and learn how to savour them as if they were the last ones! Totally recommend this beautiful bistro! Loved it! ( Ask for the cauliflower risotto. It was to die for)

A lovely dining experience with an eclectic ambiance, the service was attentive without being over the top. I was torn as to whether to give this a four or five star review as i felt some of the degustation dishes were over seasoned. Overall however i was overwhelmingly happy with the chefs flexibility on courses as one of our party had intolerance issues.

We had a party of five for a 7 course degustation. The ambiance and table setting was beautiful. It looks like a silver service restaurant, however, the extra service normally given in a restaurant of this calibre, would normally place the napkins on laps, and more attention to details.Two of the party got the wine pairing, which was amazing. The food looked amazing and was delicious. The staff explained each meal and wine very well. However, the other three guests purchased a drink at the beginning and was never asked if they would like another drink, seemingly only the wine paring people got the attention for drinks. We also needed to ask twice for more water before we eventually got some. One guest (myself) was gluten free and although this information was given months before on booking, I was given vegetable dishes as replacement for the venison dish and the octopus dish which seemed unusual as both meats are gluten free and surely a variation could have been made. Although the replacements dishes were delicious, its hard to fathom the same price for a vegetarian dishes than for seafood or meat. No coffee or tea was offered during or after dessert, so we needed to go elsewhere for that. All in all it was a lovely night, but for a night out costing over $700 I think these few issues need to be addressed for our party to return.

I had my birthday dinner at this lovely bistro. The place is bigger than it seems from the outside, with a series of small cosy rooms that reminded me of an old gentlemen's smoking lounge or library. It had a really nice ambience, and the wait staff were very attentive. We had the short course degustation menu (vegetarian), and the chef was very accommodating of my intolerance to nightshade plants (chili, capsicum, eggplant, tomato). There was also no tofu or fake meat in sight - just delicious vegetables presented in very inventive dishes. I heard other diners praising the non-vegetarian menu too. My only minor criticism is that the chef seems to be obsessed with pickles. Pretty sure there was something pickled on every dish, including dessert. My partner and I were laughing about it after the third dish. Having said that, I would definitely come here again.

Could not recommend this place more. I went to Deer Duck for the first time last night after being proposed to by my partner! He and the staff had arranged for a beautiful table and amazing food and drinks to celebrate the special occasion. They even put rose petals across the table. The staff were SO friendly and attentive and the decor and vibe of the space was PERFECT. It was a seriously delicious meal and the most amazing end to my night. THANK YOU Deer Duck!

We had dinner on a Saturday night, short course menu with matching wines, one vegetarian and one standard.The good- Cocktails were nice- Truffle pasta dish was niceThe bad- Wait staff are either poorly trained or just not very good. Matching wine arriving sometimes up to half an hour before the dish it was matched with.- Ordered cocktails as our table wasn't ready when we arrived. Cocktails didn't turn up until after we'd been seated, had ordered, and had already been served our first matching wine.- Wine pairing in general not worth it, our waiter had obviously never had any of them as he explained with every pour "This wine tastes like stonefruit and pairs perfectly with your next course".- Vegetarian main is supposed to be a gnocchi dish, but was instead a small amount of cauliflower and supermarket dried minted peas. It was very poor.- The peppered venison tartare dish is supposed to have an egg yolk on top of it. Mine did not. This did not stop the waiter explaining to me about the dish when he brought it to the table, as he looked at it and with a straight face told me it was topped with an egg yolk... It must have been invisible tonight.- The octopus dish was replaced by a tiny puff pastry round with almost nothing in it. Didn't seem like a suitable replacement.- The food in general is just OK. It does not meet the standard of what you would expect at this price point.

It is very sad that I have to give this restaurant such a low rating and it is all due to the service. My partner and I sat in the private room and this left us forgotten. Our meals were called away only after our plates cleaned around 15minutes after we had finished the meal. We did not once have a waiter pour us a drink and completely served ourselves. We sat for 3 hours with 7 portions of food which were just too far apart. With about half an hour between each serving we were forced to ask the waiter to call the next meal immediately as they delivered one. We were not asked once how we enjoyed the food or how things were going until we left after 3 hours forgoing on our last course. The food was absolutely amazing but the service was appalling, we were not even apologised to when we made mention at the register. For people that dine out regularly and enjoy fine wine and food we were very excited to try here and the food loved up the expectation. The champagne we choose lived up to our expectation, it was just a shame we needed to serve it ourselves and also ask for ice in our bucket.

Staff were absolutely wonderful and extremely friendly. They took the time to explain what every dish were and regularly checked on customers how the food were. The food was impeccable. Pricing wise, the dishes weren't cheap however the quality in which the food were presented and tasted definitely far exceeded expectations. Overall, I was very satisfied and would recommend others to dine here.

Went to Deer Duck with a Group of 8 colleagues and certainly left impressed. If you go on a Saturday night you are required to get the degustation menu. However, we did not leave disappointed. All courses were fantastic, but the clear highlight to me was the Deconstructed Poppy-Seed & Orange Cheesecake - it was absolutely delightful! Will return again!

An absurdly overpriced experience, at an extremely average restaurant, that clearly thinks that it is something that sadly, it is not. My wife and I opted to select the short course along with the wine pairing. Perhaps we've been spoiled, or perhaps a menu should strive to deliver. Eitherway, what we were presented with failed to live up to its haute cuisine ideology. As someone who is new to the area, and longing for fine wine and food. We genuinely hoped that we had found a new spot to call home. This, unfortunately, is not it. Normally never someone to complain, I felt compelled to say something about this place considered how ridiculously poor value for money, experience and enjoyment it delivered. This has to be the most romantic fine dining restaurant we have been to . What a hidden gem! From the street you would never know, but once inside the decor, lighting and ambiance filled us with delight. The service was exceptional and the food was top notch. The only downside was the $15 PP corkage charge for BYO which was rather steep. Looking forward to our next visit.

We didn't get off to a good start.We asked for a very dry Martini and got them made with sweet vermouth. Response: "we should buy some dry vermouth". At $18 each, not good enough!Moved on to the five-course degustation, with accompanying wines. The food itself was excellent, very well cooked and presented, but the portions a little small, even for 5 courses. The accompanying wines were pretty ordinary and, again, a minimal amount. Somewhat stingy, especially at $55 per head.All up, cost was $330; really OTT, even considering the cosy, romantic ambiance.

What an enchanting location. The decor and ambience rings of high class fine dining. Unfortunately the lack of compassion and empathy displayed by the venue was disappointing and frustrating. As a fellow business owner I was sorely disappointed with the treatment of my family and the cost both emotional and financial it incurred to our friends. The result of a situation where my toddler fell ill and suddenly decided to expel his sickness. Unfortunate but as parents a situation we have often been familiar with and handled quickly, cleaning up and excusing ourselves from the festivities with our friends promptly to avoid ruining everyone’s evening. Whilst departing staff approached my wife and requested she leave our credit card details to pay for professional carpet cleaning. Shocked my wife declined as our friend promptly ushered her away promising staff to leave her details as our son simply needed to be taken home. Upon departing our friends were charged $50 for setting our places at the table and us not having dined. Further to this the restaurant manager contacted our friend the following day to request that she pay for the carpet cleaning. Honestly the whole situation could have been better, if it had I would be leaving a positive review right now and would have already sort a new reservation. Ultimately all Deer Duck Bistro achieved was leaving a bad taste in our mouth.

Food was tasty with delicious use of truffle seasoning. Service was good; there was a lot of emphasis on wait staff giving speaches about the food and beverage for each course. The intent was nice.My partner and I were shocked when they wanted us to pay a cleaning bill for their carpet floor when a toddler spilled a little sick (which was cleaned immediately and didn't leave a mark). If the business caters to families, then small children making unavoidable mess is wear and tear and part of the business model. Furthermore, who the hell would carpet a restaurant dining floor? To me that is irresponsible and unhygenic. Dining areas should be mopped and bleached daily.The manager let us off the next day after my partner got riled up on the phone. But everyone (10 guests), were left feeling that the handling was in poor taste.

What an amazing night. Food was beyond what I expected. And from what I had heard I was expecting it to be really good. We had the 5 course degustation with matching wines. The staff presented each meal with a clear description of what we were having and why each wine was paired with the dish. And they really were all matched perfectly. Standout of the night was that pulled pork amuse but then who could say no to that deconstructed cheesecake with fairy floss! Start to finish perfection! If you have allergies this place will take good care of you. A welcome change from my usual hassles with dining out. Thanks so much to all of the staff for making our night so special. I look forward to bringing friends and family here again and recommending to all who will listen! Thanks guys :)

Never before have I given 5/5 because I have always maintained that any place can improve, even if in a small way. However, the night was perfect. The service was attentive and friendly without being obsequious, we always had our water filled up without having to ask, wine suggestions were good, the background music was lovely and at just the right level which meant one could still talk and be heard, and the food... OMG the food was simply out of this world. We had the 5 course degustation and savoured every morsel. My one dietary request was catered for with a smile. And the decor is truly like stepping back in time. This was worth every cent for a special occasion.

We were were very pleasantly surprised by the decor on arrival. Something like an old fashioned gentlemen's club. Liked how the dining spaces were in varying sized rooms. Hidden gem located at the suburb of Milton/ Auchenflower. We saw the great review of this place and decided to come after dinner for a drink and dessert. The bistro was decorated beautifully with a vintage touch to every little details. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the music played (Dear Duck Jazz 2 on Spotify in case you are interested too) We ordered a cheese cake. Not the traditional cheesecake you are expecting. Presentation was beautiful and the taste was just amazing. You are paying for a piece of art basically. Little disappointed they ran out of the tea I wanted. When we first arrived we had to wait for a while to get served. But other than that they service here was good and we will definitely come back to try their mains.

Okay, so this is a somewhat biased review, as we both had the vego degustation menu. However, everything we had was on the menu, so that's a thing.It was a good evening, the venue had a unique and historic feel. The food was tasty, and we both left very satisfiedHowever, for the 300 dollar price tag (for two) it didn't meet expectations. Here is why:1. The food was okay, nothing was bad, but it was not good enough for the premium price. The main issue was that some dishes were under salted, and some were over salted. One of the desserts was also too mild, such that it was flavorless after the previous dish.Every dish was interesting, but some didn't quite hit the mark. Nothing really stood out as exceptional.2. The drinks. I had one of the cocktails off the list, and it just wasn't nice. I have had a cocktail or too in my time, and will drunk just about anything, but not that. The juice was weird and it just didn't work. Also, the first g&t had no garnish. I would expect a garnish added to match the selected gin.3. The atmosphere was weird and it was also too quiet. When placed in the only room with customers (there were other empty rooms with set tables), it actually felt awkward to have a conversation.So, all in all, this place would be 4/5 at half the price, but I still probably wouldn't revisit.

Went here for a dinner and had the 5 course degustation meal. I was a little hesitant seeming that i myself have a large appetite! All of the food that was served was absolutely amazing! The portions were great with the small intervals in between resulting in myself becoming full. The food itself was ridiculously amazing and filled with so many great combinations of flavour! My partner and i had a wonderful time and would come back again! The atmosphere is also really cool.

My husband and I attempted to go to the restaurant on a Thursday night and it was probably the worst experience as a customer I have ever had. I should preface this by saying that we regretfully didn’t get to try any of the food so the poor review is based on the service and our experience in the restaurantWhile a number of degustations were available we decided to go on a night where the a la carte menu was available as I don’t like duck and can’t eat shellfish which featured on all the degustations. When we arrived our waiter gave us the menu for the degustation. When I asked him about the a la carte menu, he informed us that the chef had only prepared 6 servings of the a la carte menu and that they had already sold them all. After explaining that we had only come there for the a la carte he said he would talk to the kitchen and see what he could do. Shortly he came back and left the a la cart menus on the table and walked away before I could ask if there was anything on the menu that wasn’t available. He then later came back to take our orders. This waiter had an air of snobbyness and gave us the feeling he thought we were just being difficult customers which made us both feel very uncomfortable. A few uncomfortable minutes later a different waiter came back to inform us that we actually couldn’t have the a la carte menu because the chef didn’t have enough stuff prepared as they were so busy the night before and wanted to make sure that we weren’t interested in a degustation instead. She did offer to see if she could organise some substitutions for the courses I couldn’t eat but at this point we felt uncomfortable and weren’t really enjoying ourselves so we decided to leave.The pros were that they filled our water glass and offered a drink on the house for our troubles however we politely declined as we really just wanted dinner. We left the restaurant disappointed and upset about the ordeal. I suggest that the restaurant removes the al la carte menu from the website if it’s not going to be available to save others disappointment.

One of the worse dinner experience we had. Firstly we were not told about a set menu for valentine's day ,which was $150 per person . I must say the food was amazing ,but very small portions . The room we were sitting was very hot because the aircon was not working . Not once we were offered anything to drink . Time between the meals took way too long . Left the restaurant 3 hours later very annoyed and still quiet hungry ,not mentioned we paid $300 just for food. It was a Big let down and it totally ruined our night.

I was so hoping for a perfect valentine dinner with my wife.. I should preface this review by saying we have eaten in beautiful restaurants all the world.. Firstly the food was amazing.. However the experience was so terrible it us angry for the $300 bill without drinks. Firstly the restaurant was extremely hot, my shirt became wet after nearly 3 hours of sitting for 4 courses. The time was also a problem as our meals were being served and prepared with others sitting around us (same booking time) whom were having the drinks attached the fixed 4 course meal. We didnt take the drinks option but the crazy thing is that we were never once offered any other drinks from the bar.. Not only is this bad from a customer service point of view, its bad for the owners from a making money point of view.. The additional money could pay for better air conditioning and waiters whom we could listen to understand the menu options as they were being delivered. When a young chap arrived at the table offering us water, I pointed to our Mineral water which we purchased and he then said oops and left.. Yet our glasses were practically dry.. Surely he could have filled them up for us .. 101 table service.. Others around us were complaining of heat as well .. Overall terrible dining experience, but the food and its display is exceptional. So much potential to rival the big city restaurants if staff issues are dealt with.

I was mislead when I made my booking for valentines dinner, a whole month in advance. I was advised that I could order from the normal options menu and a special valentine's option would also be available. I have now, a week out from Valentines, been asked by Deer Duck to confirm my booking for valentines, as a deposit is now required and there are no choices - the normal $79 five course has been replaced with a $155 valentines five course.This is further compounded as no substitutes can be made, even for allergies (one of the courses is seafood, which one of our friends is allergic to).As I have been mislead, and with such short notice to find an alternate venue, I give Deer Duck the lowest rating.

Been here 3 times in 2 months because the food was just heavenly. They offer only degustation on certain days - Had 5 courses the first time with my girlfrens, then 9 courses (their longest) with my partner and 7 with my family right before christmas. Every single dish (except the strawberry mousse cheese cake which kinda tasted like tooth mousse if it's not cold enough), were amazing. Their staff standard is high as well, no less than the first line fine dining restaurants eg. Aria. The atmosphere is awesome, perfect for dates. the only thing is probably -The manager could smile a bit more, and slow down his pace when serving and explaining what the dishes are, but overall there's really nothing to be picky about with this place. It's near perfect. I'll be coming back for more. Recommended cocktail: bramblin' along

The worst experience ever. Overpriced. Food portions outrageously tiny , wine poor quality again outrageously overpriced staff incoherent and unhelpful. When my wife and I go out to dinner including this supposedly upmarket restaurant we amongst other men diners with tatty shorts and running shoes and the women were not much better.I did send an email but got no joy. Have no trouble paying for top class food at a top class restaurant But this restaurant is a sham, the staff and management couldn’t care less. Let me offer some solid advise stay well away JM HOLOHAN

Possibly the most disorganised restaurant I've attended. They made about 30 people wait over 1.5 hours for tables in the heat on Christmas Day, despite making people place deposits to ensure they would turn up on time.Would not return.

Had the 9 course digustation. Half of the serving sizes were too small - even for a digustation. Food quality was average - slow cooked duck was rubbery and half the courses were bland. Very overpriced and waiting time between courses was too long.

Superb. Visited about 6 months after they opened and again last weekend. Both times I had the long degustation menu, and both meals were sublime. I understand there's been a change of ownership, but I couldn't detect any significant difference in the quality of dishes, presentation, or service, all of which were top notch.My recent trip was Saturday lunch, which was a very quiet time. The portion sizes were excellent, as was the pacing of the meal. Our waiter was helpful and friendly while maintaining an air of unobtrusive formality. We didn't order the matching wines this time, but chose our own from the small but varied selection of wines by the glass.The food itself was wonderful - flavoursome, well balanced, bright, and often imaginative without crossing the line to contrivance. I missed two of our seven courses, but there are photos of the others.

We visited the restaurant for our 2nd visit on a Wednesday night. The food was quite good but the service was poor. We ordered the 9 course degustation which took 3 hours to serve. On serving our last course at 10.15pm we were informed the restaurant will be closing at 10.30pm. At 10.30pm the waiter returned and asked us to leave. It was clear the staff had somewhere else to be as we were not offered coffee, or served our champagne (complimentary when ordering the degustation through the week) after asking the waiter 3 times. We spent $700 with your restaurant and unfortunately we were left dissapointed due to the service we received.

This was our second visit. First time was amazing and well worth the money. This time not so much. The food was still pretty good but the degustation we were served had two dishes that were totally different than the menu we were showed at the start. When asked about it the staff gave no explanation other than they had not had time to get new menus printed. Not good enough when paying over $200 a head. Also with the matching wine offer with the degustation, they were extraordinarily stingy with the pouring. They also ran out of a type of wine part way around our table and served a completely different wine for the rest. At $85 a head you are better off buying a couple of bottles of wine. Overall, the food was good but the service and value just is not there anymore.

I was taken here for my birthday celebrations but wasn't wowed ambience was lovely food was good but in comparison to other degustations I've had not great also I didn't feel the front of house to be very welcoming at all the new Russian waiter was really lovely he should be rewarded the other one needs to be retrained in customer service Im sure many people would not want to return due to the unwelcoming vibes of certain front of house staff.

Amazing food, great service and fine dining without being pretentious. We went there for our anniversary dinner and had the long course degustation with matching wines. The venue was a little different - a converted house - a little dark but great for a couples dinner. Definately great food and service without the pretentious feel of the CBD or riverside restaurants in Brisbane.

The setting, atmosphere and ambience are really nice and the food was good (but unfortunately nothing had the 'wow factor' we were hoping for).What really let the place down was the wait staff who were unfriendly, (with one of them bordering on rude) and lacked the professionalism I would expect in a fine dining restaurant.
